CARS 2 — A Sneak Peek

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

I’m wishing my son could be seven years old again because he’d go nuts for CARS 2. (Why did they make the title all caps? I haven’t a clue.)

Thought I’d share the just-released teaser trailer trailer with all of you who have kids this age. (Although, heck, we’re still huge Disney/Pixar fans in our family and we’ll definitely see it!)

The film doesn’t hit theaters until June 24, 2011. But it’s fun to get a peek. (And who doesn’t like Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen?)

Give a Day of Service — Get a Day of Disney Fun!

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I love this idea… Disney is inspiring families to volunteer in their communities during 2010. And they came up with a great way to do it. One million people who perform volunteer service for a participating organization will receive a free one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park.

To learn all about the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” program, including how to get your free one-day admission pass, visit www.DisneyParks.com (U.S. and Puerto Rico) or www.DisneyParks.ca (Canada).

To enable people to sign up for an eligible volunteer project, Disney is working with HandsOn Network, the nation’s largest volunteer network. Part of the Points of Light Institute, HandsOn Network has 250 volunteer action centers across the country. They connect volunteers with more than 70,000 nonprofit agencies that need their help. Many of the opportunities are for projects that entire families can participate in together. (Kids must be at least age 6 to participate.)

And while you’re at your favorite Disney resort, be sure to pick up one of these cool new black-satin princess hats. I love the rhinestones on the front (especially the Mickey-shaped one at the very top of the crown). What better way to channel your inner Disney princess? (And you know she’s in there!)

Weather Report: It’s Snowing at Disneyland!

snowing at disneyland

Such an amazing site: Sleeping Beauty’s castle, all decked out for the holidays, with “snow” falling all around us.

After Thanksgiving, I’ll be reporting a lot more on our recent visit to Disneyland, and sharing all the cool stuff they’re doing for the holidays. But for now, I just had to share this photo.

Giveaway! Join Me For a VIP Experience at Disneyland!

Monday, October 12th, 2009

10-12-09I’m so excited! And you will be too. Disneyland has invited one lucky Parent Talk Today reader and three guests to join me, along with other selected parenting bloggers and their guests, for a special VIP day at Disneyland on Saturday, November 21.

That’s right! A family of four. For free. You’ll get the VIP treatment while previewing Disneyland’s holiday happenings. What a great way to get in the holiday spirit!

If you’ve never been to Disneyland at the holidays, you’re in for an amazing experience. Sleeping Beauty’s castle and It’s a Small World will be decked out with unbelievable lights. The smell of gingerbread on Main Street will entice you to stop by the bakery for a bite. And don’t forget the Haunted Mansion, all set for the holidays in true Jack Skellington fashion…

And did I mention carolers? A parade? Santa? It will be an unforgettable day for you and your guests.

Want to enter? Here’s all you need to do:

1)    Subscribe to Parent Talk Today.

2)     In “Comments,” tell us your favorite Disney-related memory. It doesn’t have to be specifically about Disneyland. One of my favorite Disney memories is seeing my son Matt, at age 3, watching “Toy Story” and then (wearing his “Woody” jammies, which he got for Christmas) riding his stick horse around the house.

10-12-09-1This giveaway will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The winner will be drawn at random and will be announced here on Friday, Oct. 23.

Hey, I’m a mom. I have my rules! The winner will receive parking and admission to the park that day (for 4 people) along with participation in our activities and one meal as part of the Holiday Celebration reception on Saturday. While you don’t have to live in Southern California to enter, you must provide your own transportation and lodging if you are coming from out of the area. The winner and guests must attend the event and must be willing to remain with the VIP group for the entire event. You must be willing to be photographed by Disneyland Press Relations and by Parent Talk Today. This giveaway is non-transferable.

I can’t wait to hear your Disney memories!

Disneyland Halloween Fireworks — and Much More!

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Have you seen the amazing Halloween fireworks at Disneyland? Our family got to see then when we were invited there for a parenting-bloggers tour, and I have to say, we were blown away by the display, the music, and the special added touches that made our orange-and-black-striped socks go up and down. Check out the video.

And stay tuned, because I’m going to be sharing a special announcement from Mrs. Claus and Disneyland (now there’s a good combo!) in the next week. Here’s a little tease from Mrs. Claus from when we visited recently…

But wait! That’s not all the fun we had. The wonderful young man who plays Ragtime on Main Street, Alan Thompson Jr., invited Matt to play “Maple Leaf Rag” on the way-cool Ragtime piano, right there on Main Street! Lucky for me, I had my Flip camera ready to roll.

And what trip to Disneyland is complete without a ride on the trolly? What a great way to see Main Street all decked out for Halloween.

Here’s a video that Disneyland put together to show just some of the fun we parenting bloggers had that day. It sure got us in the Halloween spirit!

Take the Kids to See “Up”

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Our family just got back from seeing Disney Pixar‘s new movie, “Up,” and all I can says is take the kids and go see it! So much fun. (It’s rated PG and there are some scenes that might be scary to younger children.)

We had a choice between the 3-D version and the regular version and decided to spend the extra $2 per ticket for the 3-D version, but we didn’t find the 3-D effects to be all that spectacular.

So don’t worry if the 3-D version is sold out and you are left with the regular version, because more important than the 3-D effects are the terrific Pixar animation and the wonderful story (I laughed! I cried! And I fell in love with Ed Asner’s cranky old man.)

Check out the preview below. (Click on the box to get rid of the Google ads that run in the bottom of the trailer. They came with the trailer and I couldn’t remove them.) Then go see this movie!
